The FMCSA issued a Temporary Waiver and Notice of Enforcement Policy for states and commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers in response to the COVID-19 emergency. The agency has done so in recognition of challenges some drivers are having accessing state drivers licensing agencies and medical facilities during the emergency. The temporary waiver and enforcement policy are in place until June 30, 2020.
The FMCSA’s action provides following relief, subject to terms and conditions:
Allows states to avoid taking licensing action against some drivers who were unable to renew their CDL or provide documentation of medical certification and Permits motor carriers to allow a driver to operate a CMV if their medical certification or license expired on or after March 1, 2020. To take advantage of this additional flexibility:
The driver’s license must be expiring on or after March 1, 2020
The driver’s privileges must not have been suspended or withdrawn for a traffic offense
The driver must carry a paper copy of their expired medical certificate(s)
Drivers that do renew their Medical certificates need to still turn them in to Wyandotte, Inc management so we can keep accurate files during the extension. Fed Ex Ground will update it's own system to keep expired medical certificates from interfering with dispatch.
